Back from the Bugeater!

Well, I'm back from the 2014 Bugeater, or atleast back from the Team Tournament since that's the only part I participated in this time around. Results of the Team for me and Josh, weren't too terrible for what we brought to the table.

For our army, we brought a mix of Codex Inquisition and Codex Astra Militarum, mostly infantry with a couple of vehicles.

Our Army, Led by Inquisitor Coteaz, Inquisitor Bertram and a Lord Commissar:

Our First game was against Chaos Marines and Imperial Guard in a fight for the Relic and 4 other objectives. The game ended with a loss for us, but it was a well done game from our opponents.
The Last man standing from my Storm Trooper deepstrike and return fire.
Game 2 was against the tournament ringer and his 2000 points of Space Marines. Another great game, where most of the fighting fell on the Inquisition forces. The game pulled a win out for our side.

Game 3 saw our team up against a combined Daemon and Chaos Marine force, with plenty of winged daemon princes. This ended in a horrible loss for us, suffering heavy losses to the daemon princes.

Overall a very fun tournament and I look forward to playing in the team again next year if they keep it around. At the end of the tournament there were raffle prizes handed out, a daemon chariot and a Taurox box set. I was lucky enough to win the Taurox kit and already have the model assembled and painting begun. Initially I was skeptical about the kit, not really impressed with it's truck like appearance, but building one I'm really happy with it and will definitely be picking up more of them in the future.

Also given out were trophies for several 'Best of' categories, such as Overall, Generals and Appearance(painting) and in the end, me and Josh took home the Best of Appearance trophy for our army.

Next post will show off my new Taurox! Got to go and take some WIP pictures now before I get any further haha.

Bugeater 2014

Alright, so this entry is a long time in coming, between being swamped and work and general lazyness once more.

This weekend I will be attending the 2014 Bugeater GT down in Omaha, NE and I will be participating in the team tournament on Friday. For the team I kind of tossed around several ideas for my 1000pt army, initially wanting to try out the new Tempestus Scions, but the amount of stuff I would have had to buy, build and paint in the time I had wouldn't have been feasible. In the end I decided to take a small Astra Militarum(Imperial Guard) Force, but I didn't exactly just want to take my old IG models that are already painted up and use them, mainly because I've become a better painter since they were finished. What I ended up doing was taking a squad of my old troops and stripping the paint from them, I took two of my Leman Russ tanks and finished them up with washes(Still don't and probably won't have them highlighted), I also added in a platoon of the new Scions, one of the new Commissar models and picked up a couple more pieces to finish out a Vostroyan squad so I could run a bit of a combined arms army.

My List:
HQ:
Lord Commissar - 65
Plasma Pistol - 15
Power Weapon - 15
Carapace - 5
Total - 100

Troop:

Elite:
Tempestus Command - 85

Standard - 10
Medi - 15
Volleygun - 10
Total - 125

Scions - 70
+5 Scions - 60

Total - 160

Leman Russ - 150
Lascannon - 10
Total - 160

Though I realize I'm 15pt short of my 1000, but it's too late to add anything, so ohwell.

And just finished as of last night, the completed army! I might get the Russes highlighted, but I'm working the next couple of days, so probably not.

Tempestus Scions: 10 man squad and Command Squad: (I have yet to come up with a regimental name, other than they are the 7th.
Close up of the Tempestor Prime and Standard Bearer:
Lord Commissar:

Leman Russ Tanks: (Ascendance and Line Breaker):
Vostroyan First Born:
Valedor 422nd Consolidated(My first Regiment, repainted to my improved level):

Now that I can sit down and look over the models that I've built and that I've painted, I have a few thoughts about the two new kits that I worked on, namely the Scions and the Commissar.

Let's start with the Scions. First off, this kit is absolutely magnificent to put together, all the arms and backpacks are paired up and numbered so that its a breeze to get the correct parts fitting together. I think the most trouble I had was with the banner bearer, had to bend the pole a bit to get both hands to fit properly, but it wasn't that big of a deal. As well, the sheer amount of pieces you get with this box set makes for a lot of great combinations of gear. Plenty of extras like knives, grenades, Imperial Primers as well as a huge assortment of heads. You get about 5 or 6 with berets and you get the same number with full helmets.

For the new Commissar, it may be a single pose model, but it does go together exceptionally well, with little to no mold lines showing up. It is definitely a model I would buy again just to try and change it up.

Thanks for reading or looking haha.
